What Can You Drive with a Class 3?

A Class 3 license allows you to operate single motor vehicles with three or more axles, such as dump trucks, straight-body trucks, and large tow trucks. You can also tow a trailer if it’s not equipped with air brakes and operate vehicles covered under Class 5. With a Q Endorsement, you’re certified to drive trucks with air brake systems. Class 3 is ideal for careers in construction, delivery, waste management, and utility services — offering a strong entry point into Alberta’s commercial driving and trades industries.

Class 3 Driver Program

Our Class 3 program prepares you to operate heavy single-unit vehicles such as dump trucks, cement mixers, flatbeds, and garbage trucks. Whether you’re entering construction, municipal services, or fleet operations, this course provides the hands-on training and licensing preparation you need to get to work.

You’ll learn essential skills including vehicle inspections, shifting techniques, in-yard maneuvers, and real-world road driving with expert instruction. The program includes both classroom and practical training, with a strong focus on safety and control.

To qualify, students must hold a valid Class 5 non-GDL license, complete air brake certification (Q Endorsement), and pass Alberta’s Class 3 knowledge and road tests. This is a fast, effective pathway into high-demand driving roles across Alberta’s industrial and commercial sectors.
